The American Merchant Marine Memorial located in San Pedro, California was dedicated in 1989 and was the first National Merchant Marine Memorial in the United States. The vision for the Memorial was from American Merchant Mariners who bravely served their country during times of conflict. These mariners formed the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial Committee which designed, constructed,  funded and today maintain the Memorial. The financial support for the Memorial comes from those who wish to truly honor and remember those brave mariners who sacrificed their lives for their country.

Visit the Memorial

The Memorial is open and available to the public at all times, all year long. The Committee encourages everyone, especially all Merchant Mariners, their families and friends, to visit the Memorial and pay homage to  those mariners who gave their lives in the service of the United States. View the more than 6,800 names  engraved on what is the only headstone many of these mariners will ever have. National Maritime Day is  celebrated annually on May 22nd by Presidential Proclamation. The Committee and friends observe this  important day with a memorial  service followed by a luncheon to which the public is invited.
